Government Of Canada Federal Carbon Tax

Effective April 1, 2020, your monthly DERS natural gas bill will include the updated rate of $1.576/GJ for the Government of Canada's Federal Carbon Tax. The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) provides regulatory oversight for utilities in Alberta, including natural gas. As an independent agency, the AUC sets regulated rates to ensure residents receive quality utility service at a fair price. In addition, the AUC responds to questions and issues that may arise with your regulated natural gas service.

A regulated natural gas retailer provides localized service and peace of mind to its customers. Your regulated utility company is held directly accountable to you and your community to provide reasonable rates and efficient service, which results in:

By default, you will enroll in a Direct Energy Regulated Services natural gas plan if you live in one of our service areas unless you sign a contract with a competitive natural gas provider.

Switching from a competitive retailer to Direct Energy Regulated Services for your natural gas plan is easy, and you can do it all online. Click on "Sign Up for New Service" above, enter your address or Site ID number (you can find your Site ID number on your natural gas bill) and simply follow the remaining prompts to finalize your application.
