Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, domestic abuse rates in Alberta were the highest in a decade, with one in every three Albertans facing intimate partner abuse in their lifetime. With COVID-19 on the rise, experts warn that isolation, coupled with the stress of an economic downturn can worsen abusive relationships and may expose Albertans to an increased risk of violence. Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services recognize this, and today announced their partnership with Sagesse to help promote the organization’s REAL Talk campaign.

The cheque was presented at Direct Energy’s holiday kick-off event at Cinema 6 on Saturday, December 14, 2019, where the entire community, including special guests from Big Brothers Big Sisters, were invited to enjoy a free holiday movie with family and friends.

Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services are hosting holiday afternoon matinees in Lethbridge on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at The Movie Mill. Members of the Lethbridge Family Centre and the entire Lethbridge community are invited to choose between two holiday classics – “Elf” or “The Grinch” – to enjoy an afternoon at the movies with family and friends. Tickets for each showing are free and complimentary snack packs are provided with each ticket.

Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services are hosting a free family fun night for YMCA families and the entire Fort McMurray community at Aim High Trampoline Park on Saturday, December 7, 2019. The all-inclusive event will run between 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Event attendees are invited to enjoy free use of the trampolines, playground and virtual reality, and will also be provided with a meal, drinks and snacks.

Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services were proud to participate in the Annual Terry Fox Run in Grande Prairie for the second consecutive year this past weekend. The Alberta team worked closely with the Rotary Club of Swan Hills and brought hot coffee, treats and a face painter to the event and presented a $1,000 donation, on behalf of its employees, to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services, were proud to announce a $2,500 donation to YMCA Wood Buffalo this past weekend. The cheque was presented on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services’ free community event, Bounce-A-Palooza. The overwhelmingly popular event took place at MacDonald Island Park and included bouncy castles, carnival games, and free treats This was the second donation to the community organization since December 2018, for a total contribution of $6,000.

Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services, were proud to announce a $2,500 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster this past weekend. This is the third donation in support of the local mentorship program, for a total of $9,500 contributed since August 2018. The cheque was presented following the pancake breakfast on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition, where all proceeds went directly to Big Brother Big Sisters. Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services also returned as sponsors of Denham’s Ram Tough CPCA Finals and provided complimentary treats to families attending the races.
